Grammar: Comparative and superlative adjetives.



Ya hemos estudiado en lengua los grados del adjetivo. Ahora vamos a aprenderlos en inglés.

COMPARATIVO DE SUPERIORIDAD Y SUPERLATIVO RELATIVO.

FORMACIÓN:
  • Adjetivos con 1 o 2 sílabas: se añade al adjetivo el sufijo -er para el comparativo de superioridad y -est para el superlativo relativo. 
        short, shorter, the shortest / corto, más corto, el más corto.
  • Adjetivos con 3 sílabas o más: se antepone la palabra more (más) para el comparativo de superioridad y "the most" (el más) para el superlativo relativo.
       dangerous/ peligroso
      
more dangerous / más peligroso
       the most dangerous / el más peligroso.



EXCEPCIONES:

- Si un adjetivo termina en e solamente se añade -r para el comparativo y -st para el superlativo.
Nice, nicer, the nicest / amable, más amable, el más amable.

- Cuando termina en una sola consonante precedida de una sola vocal, duplica la consonante.
Hot, hotter, the hottest / caluroso, más caluroso, el más caluroso.

- Si termina en consonante + y cambia la y por i.
Dry, drier, the driest / seco, más seco, el más seco.

TRUCO:

Para saber si es un comparativo tiene que llevar detrás la palabra THAN que significa QUE y si es superlativo lleva delante la palabra THE.

COMPARATIVOS Y SUPERLATIVOS IRREGULARES.

Good, better, the best / bueno, mejor, óptimo.
Bad, worse, the worst / malo, peor, pésimo.
Far, further, the furthest / lejano, más lejano, el más lejano.
